Editorial Policy
Our standards for accuracy, sourcing, language, updates, and corrections.
Last updated: September 12, 2026
Our purpose
The Wellness Way exists to help adults over 40 understand everyday health topics well enough to make better decisions and have better conversations with their own clinicians. Every editorial decision is measured against that purpose.
Sourcing standards
We build articles on guidance from public health agencies, government health institutes, academic medical centers, and international health organizations. Examples include the National Institutes of Health and its institutes, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the World Health Organization, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, MedlinePlus, and the Mayo Clinic. Each article lists its sources with links at the end.
We do not cite anonymous experts, personal testimonials, or commercial sources. We do not invent statistics, studies, quotations, or credentials. When we mention a number, it comes from a named institution, and when we are not confident in a number, we leave it out and describe the direction of the evidence instead.
Language standards
We write in plain American English at a level a general adult reader can follow without a medical background. We avoid jargon or explain it when it is unavoidable. Because health research describes probabilities rather than certainties, we use conditional language on purpose: "may support," "is associated with," "research suggests." We do not use words that promise outcomes, we do not attach numbers to promises, and we do not use fear, urgency, shame, or comparisons of bodies to hold attention.
How articles are produced
- Topic selection. We choose topics based on what is useful to adults over 40 and on where clear, calm explanation is lacking.
- Research. The editorial team reviews current guidance from the institutions listed above and notes where sources agree and where they differ.
- Writing. A draft is written to answer a practical question and to leave the reader with something they can try.
- Review. Before publication, a second member of the editorial team checks every factual statement against its source, checks language against our standards, and checks that the sources list is complete and that links work.
- Publication and dating. Each article carries its publication date. Substantive revisions add an updated date.
Authorship
Articles are published under the byline of the The Wellness Way editorial team. We do not use individual bylines, invented author profiles, or claimed credentials. The team is not composed of licensed clinicians, and our content is not medical advice; see our Health Disclaimer.
Updates
We periodically review published articles against current guidance. When an update changes the substance of an article, we revise the text and display an updated date. Minor edits for clarity or typography do not change the date.
Corrections
We take errors seriously and would rather fix them than defend them. If you believe something we published is inaccurate, email contact@thewellnessway.online with the article title, the statement in question, and, if possible, a source. We aim to acknowledge correction requests within a few business days and to resolve them promptly. When a correction changes a material fact, we revise the article and add a brief note describing what was changed and when. When a request turns out to be a matter of interpretation, we may add clarifying language instead.
Independence
Editorial decisions are made by the editorial team alone. Advertisers and sponsors have no influence over what we cover, how we cover it, or which sources we cite. Any sponsored content is clearly labeled and kept separate from our editorial articles, and editorial coverage is never paid for by its subject. See our Advertising Disclosure.
Illustrations
Our illustrations are original graphic work created for this Site. We do not use photographs of real people, and we do not use images that imply physical transformation.
